The rehabilitated Royan market is once again competing for the title of “most beautiful market in France”

Still as popular as ever, the market, built in 1956 in the shape of a shell or a parachute, depending on your point of view, has undergone a five million euro facelift (excluding VAT). Listed as a Historic Monument, it required extensive work on its foundations, masonry, utilities, lighting, and painting.
Since Monday, April 28, it has been among the 24 markets competing to represent the diversity of French terroirs in the TF1 1 p.m. newscast presented by Marie-Sophie Lacarrau. It accompanies the Salies market, in Béarn, at the regional level. "This emblematic competition offers an exceptional showcase for this masterpiece of post-war reconstruction. A true source of local pride, the central market hopes to shine on the national stage. Furthermore, it constitutes a major social center for exchange and humanity in the city," the Royan municipality stated in a press release.
Reports on TF1The City of Royan and the AIMCR (Royan Central Market Traders' Association) are therefore inviting everyone to vote. "Our market is the pride of a rebuilt city and the beating heart of its residents. Today, we have a chance to make it shine!"
